Unix responsible for CA drought….

From today’s Merc:

Earlier this month, weather forecasters began noticing something was amiss in the running total of rainfall totals.

“There would be more added to the total – when there wasn’t any rain. When there was rain, the numbers were subtracted,” said forecaster Steve Anderson. “It’s a total nightmare.”

It’s all because of a bad Unix script. They think.

“We can’t call tech support. It’s the government. We’re our own tech support,” Anderson said. And the guy who wrote the original coding left the weather service earlier this month.
